Species : Trogon rufus

The Black-throated Trogon is a captivating bird celebrated for its striking appearance. This avian beauty derives its name from the distinctive black throat patch that contrasts brilliantly against its vibrant green and crimson plumage. Its deep, resonant call adds a melodious note to the forest chorus. Found in the lush rainforests and lowland woodlands of Central and South America, the Black-throated Trogon graces the canopy with its presence. Its striking colouration, with bold greens and crimson, showcases nature's artistry, making it a cherished subject for artists and nature enthusiasts.

As a frugivore, the Black-throated Trogon predominantly feeds on fruits, especially figs, but they also feed on insects, spiders, and other invertebrates. Their role in the ecosystem includes consuming fruits and then spreading the seeds throughout the forest and controlling insect populations, which is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance of the rainforest.

Museum Grade Archival Printing

All prints are done with high quality archival pigment-based inks on 100% acid-free, museum-grade fine art papers.

Gilcée Prints (or Archival Prints) are designed to last you a really long time. These are printed on an inkjet printer which ‘sprays ink’. These printers use 12 pigment-based inks instead of the usual 4 dye-based inks, so colour reproduction is more accurate.

The paper is also textured, similar to the papers that the original paintings are made on, making them look very much like an actual painting, rather than a print.

There can be a minor difference in colours in the physical prints from what you see on screen.

Beautiful print, and packaged well! Loved the overall experience

I’ve always been an admirer of Shivani’s work — From her work at Arture where she used cork in the most creative ways to her work as an artist today, there is a sense of thoughtful ease and effortless beauty to everything she does. I was happy to receive an original gouache print of a black throated trogon from her new series ‘The World of Birds’. I loved how light the print was without compromising on the quality or the pigment. The focus is just the bird, so you really get to see the detailing in the beak, the eyes and the feathers. The print came in a securely packaged envelope, which is important, considering art can damage easily. Most importantly, I loved that she added an element of education and legitimacy to the overall experience — with another postcard sized species from the collection and a certificate of authenticity with details of the painting. I look forward to adding it to my tropical themed art wall in my bedroom!

How should I preserve the print?

To ensure longevity, please try not to handle the print with bare hands, or clean and dry your hands thoroughly before handling.

Keep the print out of direct sunlight as that can cause mild discolouration of the paper over time.
